Looks like his (Cafferty) comment was made in relation to the govt-
not the people Jing.
Jing:
Well, the "junks" are made by Chinese people. I am not being a
nationalist here, but I don't think what they said can be counted as a sincere apology at all! How about "bunch of goons and thugs"? I think what I really don't like CNN is that they did not report honestly about the event of Tibet. I guess nobody did, because nobody was able to. So I agree that in terms of "free speech", China still has a long way to go. China has a long way to go in a lot of aspects. But to report- or trash- the things that they haven't seen, come on! Is this the principle of "fair media" to "report the truth"? In Lhasa, when some westerners who have been living there for a long time tried to tell news reporters Lhasa is not what they have imagined and people there are actually living a good life (at least better than before), the western media seemed not to "accept this fact". You might think all Chinese people are "brainwashed" but don't you think all western people are somehow "brainwashed" too by the "fair western media" who live in their own little world of stereotype? Forgive me of saying this, I just don't want to see my country being hated and wanted to separate. Plus, I feel deeply unsafe about my homeland and my friends and family right now, because the what you are afraid of in the western world might happen in China too - the extremists are making bombs and guns, wishing to copy the tragedies of 9-11, London/Leeds in China. It is only, in the western world, this kind of behavior is called terrorism; but in my home country, according to the western "fair media", it is called "people fighting for their freedom". Her:
I know I give you a bit of a hard time but I do understand your
perspective. I must say though when our nation re-elected G. Bush for the 2nd term- many newspapers/commentators across the nation (esp. Britain, France) had headlines questioning the intelligence (and stupidity) of the American people. Frankly, this did not offend me- I generally agree that many of us in this country are not all that bright. Jing:
I just wish people in the western world could see my country is not like what
they have read from their newspaper. And those protestors, do whatever they want,
just don't try to separate my country, and (threaten to) hurt the people in my
country.
Her:
Vice Versa.
